Empty Stage-1 Output Blocks Cricket Report: A Technical Post-Mortem
The only basis supplied for this report was an analysis document whose Stage-1 output came back entirely empty. Apart from the string 'Domain Label: cricket_world', every field in that document was unpopulated — title N/A, source Unclassified, one-line summary blank, author stance N/A, and, most critically, the list of information points completely empty. The analysis itself concedes that entity identification, stance inference and time-sensitivity assessment all rest on those very information points that do not exist.
The direct consequence is that no factual sports news report can be produced. Writing an original 1,905-word cricket report requires at least some of the following: a match, a series, players, statistics, quotes or a sequence of events. What is available is a single domain label, and even that cannot be independently corroborated because there is no body text behind it. Any 'news' written under these conditions would have every fact invented — and a news report built on invented facts is fiction, not reporting.
This blockage appears to originate upstream rather than at the article level. Under normal conditions a Stage-1 decomposition does not simultaneously show 'information points empty' and 'entity/source quality to be judged on the basis of information points'. There are three typical causes. First, body extraction failed — the HTML retrieved was a hollow shell: a JavaScript-rendered page, a paywall, or an anti-scraping block page. The decomposer received zero characters of body text and therefore emitted an empty structure. Second, truncation — the text was cut to zero or near-zero length before entering Stage-1. Third, schema validation was not enforced — the decomposer allowed an empty information_points array to pass when it should have failed fast.
The remedy follows directly: rather than speculating further down the stack, check the character count of the raw body text at the upstream stage. If it is zero, the problem lies in the pipeline, not in the cricket article.
Any one of three inputs would be sufficient to proceed. First and best — the full text of the original article, from which entity identification, stance analysis, time-sensitivity and source-quality judgement can be performed directly. Second — the raw Stage-1 output JSON, to establish whether the fault lies with the decomposer or with the data-passing chain. Third — the article URL or its title plus source, which would at least permit an assessment of source quality and recency, though it would remain insufficient for stance and argument analysis.
Once the content is supplied, the analysis will follow this order: entity list, then core claims and the evidence chain, then author stance and purpose, then time sensitivity, and finally source credibility. Until then, this report contains no player names, no scores, no series results and no quotations — because none of them can be derived from the available input.
